Tammeil Gilkerson was inducted into the Education Category in 2026.
Dr. Tammeil Gilkerson is a higher education leader dedicated to social justice, equity, and inclusion, with over 20 years of experience in community colleges. She serves as Chancellor of the Peralta Community College District in Oakland, CA, and previously held leadership roles as President of Evergreen Valley College and Laney College, and Vice President at Contra Costa College. She also served as the inaugural Diversity, Inclusion, and Innovation Officer for the Contra Costa Community College District. Her career began as a counseling faculty member and TRIO coordinator at Chabot College. Beyond academia, she has worked with The Greenlining Institute and UC Berkeley, and led statewide and national initiatives supporting basic needs, undocumented students, and distance education. A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Gilkerson, holds degrees in history, counseling, and organizational leadership. She continues to advance equity-focused leadership and learner-centered institutions through her work and service.
